In the Dominican Republic, baseball isn't a pastime — it's the whole culture, and locals just call it *pelota*. From late October to January the Winter League is on, and a night at a Toros del Este game in La Romana puts you in the stands with the country's future big-leaguers. Transport, seats and food sorted — you just cheer.
Here in the Dominican Republic, baseball isn't just a sport — it's the culture, start to finish. Locals don't even call it baseball; it's pelota. So if your trip lands anywhere between late October and January, do yourself a favor and catch a Winter League game while the season's on.
For a small Caribbean island, this country turns out an astonishing number of the game's greats. Past legends like David Ortiz, José Reyes, Albert Pujols and Pedro Martínez, and today's stars like Juan Soto, Manny Machado, Fernando Tatís Jr. and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. — and that's barely scratching the list. Dominicans are the most-represented nationality in Major League Baseball outside the United States, and every single MLB team runs a training academy somewhere on the island, quietly building the next wave of talent.
We'll pick you up at your Punta Cana hotel and drive over to the nearby city of La Romana, home of the Toros del Este — the "Bulls," the team that flies the flag for the whole eastern region of the country, Punta Cana included. Grab a seat and root for the home side.
Sorting out tickets, transport and directions in a foreign country eats up a vacation day fast. We live here and we know our pelota, so we handle all of it. Your night includes:
Good seats, good food, a great game.
We keep the group to a maximum of 12, and the Toros only play so many home games, so spots go quickly — book ahead.

“A great day at the ballgame. Jonathan and his staff made everything a total pleasure. My son and I went to San Pedro de Macoris to watch Tigres at Estrellas: a pitchers' duel turned into a tenth-inning thriller. All communication in advance was great, including on Christmas Day. Jonathan could not be more lovely. The van ride from Punta Cana is a little long but fine. Front row seats just feet from the on-deck circle allowed us to chat with some players. Jonathan and his team kept a constant flow of food and drink. We even got onto the field for a few photos. Jonathan knows the game and the players and even translated some of the crowd chants—but not the ones including profanity! The vibe in the stadium is electric and fun. Just a great day of baseball. The whole trip was just super from start to end and I'll be back to do it again. I recommend Jonathan and Punta Cana Tours wholeheartedly.”

“My tour guide, Jonathan Rodriguez at Punta Cana Tours was awesome! My 13-year-old son and I had an amazing one-week vacation to the DR. Jonathan was our guide for two baseball games in San Pedro where the home team, Estrella Orientales played two of their rivals, Leones (Albert Pujols is the head coach) and the Tigres (Juan Soto's old team). Jonathan knows his baseball and the players' backgrounds. He was able to get my son and I on the field after the game for a photo opportunity. I've seen a lot of professional baseball games, and I've never had first row seats directly behind home plate. We were just feet away from the batters when they were in the on-deck circle. We also used Jonathan for our roundtrip transfer to Bayahibe for the boat trip to Saona Island that we arranged through Punta Cana Tours. We did not want to take the larger van / bus transfer to the docks because it leaves so early and stops to pick up other people taking the trip. This gave us an extra hour of sleep and was more private. Very safe driving by Jonathan and other PCT drivers which is want you want to in Punta Cana. Lots of crazy drivers on the road. I highly recommend Punta Cana Tours for your day trips in the DR. Thank you Jonathan!”

“The experience of going to see Dominican Winter League Baseball exceeded my expectations. Punta Cana Tours took care of all the logistics of getting us to the ballpark, tickets, even food and drinks. Jonathan was a great host. If you are a baseball fan visiting DR, this tour has to be on your to do list. Myself and my 3 boys loved every minute of it. The local fans are really into it, which makes for a great atmosphere. Would definitely check this out again on another trip to Punta Cana.”

“We went on a trip to a Dominican Winter league, baseball game and what a fantastic night it was. My partner has some mobility issues but nothing was too much trouble for the staff from pick up and returning to our hotel and at the game helping us around the ballpark. It probably helped that we saw what was one of the best games of the season but we had a great time and would definitely do it again.”

“Just a quick review to say how great it was working with Punta Cana Tours. The communication was timely and professional. The game itself was a great authentic experience and our guide was a perfect host acting as a translator (and negotiator!) when we needed. Great trip–don't hesitate to work with Punta Cana Tours to get off the resort for a bit–WELL worth it.”

“We booked roundtrip airport transportation, a tour of Santo Domingo and a baseball game through Punta Cana Tours. We were also able to attend a pro baseball game in San Pedro de Macorís, DR, where we had the pleasure of watching the home town team, the Estrellas Orientales (the Stars) beat the Tigres del Licey. We were supposed to go to a game in LaRomana, but when we got to the stadium we learned that the game's location had been changed to San Francisco, DR. Our guide was able to scramble and get us to another game about an hour's drive away. We had a great time!”

“My husband and I loved the Winter Baseball game. The tour was incredible and without their experience it wouldn't have been the same. Our guide spoke excellent English and Spanish. She taught us all so much about the wonderful country of DR. We learned things that you just wouldn't have the opportunity to learn without her. The baseball game was excellent. For 3 hours everyone of us was the same. Bonding with the local's and enjoying an sports event. Thank you so much. Our next trip we plan on using this company again.”

“We went to the DR for a family wedding, and as it was Dominican winter baseball season, decided to catch a game to experience baseball Dominican style. We had a great time watching the Toros del Este beat the Licey Tigers 6-0. It was fun watching the game and interacting with other baseball fans. Felt perfectly safe the whole time. Enjoyed some excellent fried chicken, too. Highly recommend this tour for anyone who is a fan of baseball! It's a great way to leave the resort behind and have a real Dominican experience through the common language of baseball!”

“I went on the baseball tour with my family and it was outstanding. The game was absolutely fantastic – a really authentic and fun experience. There was a ton of energy at the stadium and it was great to be a part of it. We chose to do this tour because my dad is a huge baseball fan. He was excited to see some major leaguers there and to chat with other like-minded fans on the tour. It was really the highlight of our entire trip to the Dominican Republic.”

“First came to this area 35 years ago as a US Peace Corps Vol. I wanted to arrange a special trip to La Romana to see a baseball game and they handled all the details including negotiating the pricing for the hats at the game for 6 of us This company is locally owned. Special compliments!”

“Was desperately searching for a baseball tour before leaving Canada and we found one! Sent an email to Punta Cana Tours and the communication was great! We were picked up ( 2 couples) and another couple was on the tour from US (they were such a fun couple) and off we went to La Romana for a Toro's and Estelles baseball game. We would definitely use Punta Cana Tours again!”
