The Same Mud, a Meaner Machine

Picture yourself behind the wheel of a proper All-terrain buggy, let loose on Punta Cana's back roads. Tempting? Then this is your tour.

Plenty of buggy trips run around here, but the thing that sets this one apart is the ride itself: these are next-generation VIP buggies — full 4WD with an electronic console — a real step up that handles the Dominican off-road with speed to spare. It's a pure back-road run out of our remote ranch in Macao, with two stops along the way.

Into the Mud

Settle into your buggy and roar out into open farmland — past palm groves and tobacco fields, the Oriental Mountain Range hazy on the horizon. The narrow country lanes are pocked with deep pools of mud, and you'll go crashing through them over and over. You'll try to keep clean at first. It won't last. It never does — VIP badge or not, this one isn't for the prissy.

Two Stops Worth Making

First, a country plantation, where you'll get a quick taste of the crops the Dominican Republic is known for: cacao, coffee, tobacco, and Mamajuana, the local spiced-rum "love potion." And yes — out here you can drink and drive, and we won't tell.

Then it's back onto the rough stuff before dropping into a cool, dark cave with a calm underground lagoon. Climb in, take a dip, and rinse off a layer of mud.

Short version: tear through the farmland, tour a country plantation, and swim in the underground waters of a natural cave.

Buggies get booked up fast in Punta Cana, so lock yours in as early as you can.
